Akakus Empowerment is a Libyan organization working with young people to build knowledge and skills, open doors to jobs and entrepreneurship, and strengthen their role in public life and in the sustainable development of their country.

Our name comes from the Akakus Mountains in southern Libya.

There, thousands of years ago, people painted images on the rock that can still be read today. We chose the name because we believe in the same idea: what people build with their knowledge and their hands leaves a lasting mark.

We work with young women and men in Libya so they gain the knowledge and skills they need, find their way into work or into a business of their own, and take part with confidence in shaping their community's future.

Our goals

Four goals that start with the individual and reach the whole community.

  1. Building young people's knowledge and skills

    We build the knowledge and skills young people need in their studies, their work and their everyday lives.

  2. Expanding jobs and entrepreneurship

    We bring young people closer to the job market and support those who want to start their own business.

  3. Raising awareness of citizenship and civic participation

    We open space for dialogue and action on rights, responsibilities and public affairs.

  4. Strengthening youth's role in sustainable development

    We encourage initiatives that serve society and the environment, with an impact that lasts beyond the activity itself.

How we work

We work with public and private institutions and civil society organizations to widen the reach of our programs and engage more young people.

We run campaigns that open conversations about citizenship, civic participation and sustainable development, both in the field and online.
